Drunks clog up ambulance service – Geelong Advertiser

ALCOHOL-related call-outs in Geelong put more pressure on ambulances than any other Victorian regional area, a report has revealed.

Greater Geelong paramedics attended 497 alcohol-related incidents in 2011-12, more than doubling the workload of areas such as La Trobe (190), Ballarat (178), Greater Shepparton (153) and Greater Bendigo (148). - Full Story

Alcohol ties up ambulance service - Herald Sun

ALCOHOL-related injuries have become one of the biggest drains of Victoria's stretched ambulance service, tying up almost 25 units across Melbourne each day.

Paramedics are being called to grog-fuelled injuries 17 times more often than for the drug "ice", 50 times than ecstasy and almost four times more often than for heroin overdoses.
